I haven't blogged in forever, so I had this idea to post a quick little funny blog (which I will do still) but right now calls for a serious one unfortunately. I love social networking sites as much as the next person, but I think there is a limit to how much one should depend on them. I just found out tonight that a friend from high school passed away last week and her memorial service was today. Granted she wasn't a best friend, she was still someone I admired and respected and would have liked to have been told of her passing and subsequent service. I have since learned that it was posted on Facebook, but I kind of took the weekend off. deciding not to get sucked into that vortex for a couple days. So as a result of that decision, I shouldn't be informed of a friend's passing? When I finally found the postings that were made on Facebook regarding the tragedy, they were buried amongst many other updates. I know that at least two people who were aware of her passing have my phone number. Would a text message (at the very least) not have been appropriate to be sure I had seen the news and it didn't get buried amongst other, much more trivial postings?
I am just at a loss for words (metaphorically speaking) over this. I'm deeply saddened by her passing but almost equally saddened that Facebook was the designated source of all of the information. Have we really distanced ourselves so much from other people that we can no longer pick up the phone?
I'm just heartbroken in so many different ways...

Silent Sunday
I apparently have an issue with commitment so I'm going to change Silent Sundays to Wordless Weekends, that was I'm not limited to just one day. :P Here are a few pictures since it's been a few Sundays since the last post.

I don't think I should be punished for having good hearing
I feel like Milton's coworkers from Office Space, but what is it about a "reasonable" volume people don't understand when listening to their radios at work? I don't think I should be able to hear your music from across the room. Just because you have old, decrepit ears doesn't mean I should be punished by not being able to hear the music I want to hear on my radio. Granted, it's a better selection today than most days (twangy country) but still...I can't hear the music that I know is playing at the desk right in front of me! I really wonder about people's perception of the world around them sometimes.
On a happier note...I LOVE this season of So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD)! I think I've liked all of the top 20 dancers except for 2, which is unusual. I usually have a clear favorite or two from the beginning. Not this season. Here is an amazingly powerful dance from last night about addiction (the girl being the addict and the man being the addiction).
Or not...I can't find a good video to post. I guess if you didn't see it you'll just have to take my word for it! :P

Silent Sunday
I'm going to "borrow" an idea that Kristen "borrowed" from someone else but tweak it a little. Starting today, I am going to do a picture only post. This is my favorite picture of Darrin, my beloved angel friend. Enjoy! :)

Chelsea Handler is my hero
I'm half way through reading "My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands" and it's amazing. I don't mean the kind of amazing that people throw out all willy-nilly like "This vanilla ice cream is amazing," I mean pee-your-pants, snorting, side-splitting AMAZING! Of course it also inspires me to do bad things like Chelsea does, but she makes them sound so damn fun. On a more personal note, that would mean I would have to find men without strong parental responsibilities in order to do some of those things she writes about. My social calendar has been pretty comparable to a desert ghost town for awhile and it now has the potential to have a spike in activity. The only problem is this activity will only be happening during the week as my possible suitors each have a kid that they're very devoted to and only get to see on the weekends. While I find the fact that they're amazing, involved fathers, I don't know what I'm going to do with my weekends! Apparently I need a sterile boy to spend my weekends with. Or maybe I should just spend the weekends resting and preparing for the upcoming week. Of course, this is all a bit presumptious as it is still early in the game, but a girl can dream. Can't she?
